Learn how constipation develops and how it leads to piles, fissure, and fistula. Dr. Shivkumarr Gorey explains Ayurveda-based digestion, causes of dryness in the rectum, acidity, and practical tips to prevent constipation naturally.

"In today’s digital world, we can accomplish almost anything in a single minute — send messages, complete transactions, and access global information instantly. Yet, we often fail to understand what is happening inside one of the most important corners of our body: the rectum (malashay). We neither observe it nor try to understand it — until problems begin.I am Dr. Shivkumarr Gorey, and through this informative article series, I aim to provide practical Ayurvedic knowledge that is useful for everyone.Just like every machine comes with a manual, Ayurveda is the manual for the most complex machine — the human body.

Ayurveda’s Deep Understanding of Digestion: Ayurveda has documented the digestive system with such detail that modern science still has much to learn from it. When we talk about anorectal diseases like piles, fissure, or fistula, we often say: These diseases occur due to excess heat in the body.
But where does this “heat” come from?
What Actually Happens Inside the Body?
Our body naturally produces several secretions that help soften and move stool:
1) Saliva in the mouth
2) Bile (Pitta) in the stomach
3) Insulin
4) Digestive enzymes
5) Countless known and unknown secretions throughout the intestines.

No matter what colour of food you eat, the stool almost always comes out yellowish because of these digestive secretions. However, when we do not support our body by eating properly, hydrating, or maintaining digestion, these secretions become insufficient.

When digestive juices reduce, the stool does not stay soft.
As a result:
1) Stool becomes hard
2) Bowel movement becomes incomplete
3) Motion becomes irregular
4) Constipation slowly develops.
Understanding Constipation with a Simple Example: Imagine a person earns ₹25,000 per month and manages his household well. Suddenly, he gets an extra ₹50,000. What happens next? He immediately finds new ways to spend it — clothes, gold, vehicle, travel. Our intestines work similarly. Every day, a certain amount of stool must be eliminated. If the stool does not come out fully, the remaining stool has nowhere else to go — unlike extra money which can be spent.
The leftover stool starts to dry inside the rectum. Dry stool produces gas (vata). This gas tries to escape through the rectum first. If ignored, the gas begins to move upwards, towards the large intestine → small intestine → stomach → and finally the mouth.
This results in:
1) Frequent burping
2) Sour burps
3) Bitter/acidic burps
4) Acidity (Amlapitta)
5) The Biggest Mistake People Make:Instead of addressing the root problem (constipation and incomplete elimination),
people take:
1) Acidity tablets
2) Digestive syrups
3) Over-the-counter powders
4) Advertised laxatives

This is similar to a clogged washbasin at home: If water is not draining and you keep poking the basin with sticks, nothing will change. Because the real blockage is in the outlet, not in the basin!
The same applies to your digestive system — you must treat the main cause, not just the symptoms.
Conclusion: Constipation is not just a minor problem. It is the root cause of major anorectal diseases
like:1) Piles2) Fissure3) Fistula

Ayurveda teaches us that when digestion is corrected and stool is regularly eliminated in proper quantity, most rectal problems can be prevented naturally."
